Thank you for supporting me - and Housing Works - as I ride my bike 285 miles to fight AIDS.
“My Story” began 31 years ago on May 9, 1987 when I got a call from my parents that Ira was in the hospital. Less than 3 weeks later with the three of us by his side he lost his brief but fierce battle with AIDS and my world changed forever.
My biggest fear was that I would forget my big brother, that his life would not have mattered.
Thirty-one years later and I still remember his smile, his laugh, his face when he was mad at me, and mostly his generous and caring heart.
I promised myself so many years ago that I would do my small piece to end the stigma of AIDS and to work to see the end of the disease that shattered my world and that of millions of others. So I ride....
As challenging as BRAKING AIDS® Ride will be, it's nothing compared to the daily struggle that people living with HIV face each day. Your donation will go right to work providing housing, medical and mental health services, and advocacy on behalf of people living with HIV/AIDS.
For the first time, we have the tools to end the AIDS crisis. With new tools and new political will – and the ongoing leadership of Housing Works – we have a plan in place to end AIDS as an epidemic in New York State by 2020. And it’s not just New York: the United Nations has established 2030 as its target date to bring global infection rates below epidemic levels.
These are real goals backed by real science. If achieved, they will change the course of history. But they will only happen with your help.
Your generous donation is fully tax-deductible. If your company has a matching gift program, you can multiply your gift by taking an extra moment to provide the information needed.
Thank you for your support! I can’t do this without you and if you're feeling ambitious and want to get on your bike, Team Isharo will welcome you to ride with us. xxx, Beth
