Thanks for your interest in the Braking AIDS® Ride. As in the past, I’m seeking to raise $1,000 for every year since I discovered I was HIV positive in 1986—$32,000. I’m hoping you’ll join me by contributing as generously as possible.
This year, we’ll follow a new 300-mile route completely within the State of New York, which has committed to a plan launched by Housing Works to make New York the first jurisdiction in the world to end the AIDS epidemic—by 2020. And of course it’s not just about New York; the UN has adopted this strategy to bring down the global spread of AIDS below epidemic levels by 2030.
These are breathtaking prospects that show what can happen when a few people dare to imagine the impossible. I’m proud to be able to support this work, and grateful for the chance it gives me to honor Kevin Hassler, my partner who died of AIDS in 1993, and the many other friends and loved ones we’ve lost. I’m also grateful, as someone with HIV who has continued to thrive these many years, for the opportunity to take positive action to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS to others, and to significantly improve the lives of people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Together, we can better thousands of lives that would otherwise be destroyed by this treatable illness. And even without a cure, we can end AIDS as an epidemic.
